Bjerke Eiendom saves itself the hassle with Parqio

For property companies, managing garages can become a major administrative task and cost. Keys have to be handed out, remotes go missing, tradespeople need access and tenants move in and out. More property players are therefore choosing to drop the key entirely and switch to digital access.

When the key creates extra work

Bjerke Eiendom is a rental company with over 400 apartments across ten city buildings in central Oslo. Bjørn Gunnar Westmann is the operations manager and has simplified his own and his staff’s working days after the company switched to digital access in the garages.

In total it’s around 120 parking spaces, plus several premises connected to the buildings and the garages.

Previously, access to the garages was based on keys and gate remotes. That brought both costs and extra daily work. “Gate remotes were dropped and broke. We didn’t come anywhere near recovering what we spent on remotes and keys,” says operations manager Bjørn Gunnar Westmann.

When many users need access to the same garage, both costs and administration grow quickly.

Saving time with digital garage access

Today Bjerke Eiendom uses Parqio on all its garages and manages access in a simple interface. Previously, the operations manager had to drive from the office himself to hand over keys to tradespeople and open the gate for deliveries.

Everything is so much easier. I can sit at the office or at the cabin when there’s a delivery and just open the gate. We save an enormous amount of time on remote opening.

For property companies this means physical key handling disappears. Deliveries, tradespeople and temporary access can be handled digitally in seconds.

Easy access for different types of users

In rental buildings it’s rarely only residents who use the garage. Contractors, tradespeople and commercial tenants often need access to the same areas. With digital access this can be solved instantly. “When a construction firm has ten employees, it’s much easier to give them ten accesses in Parqio than to hand out keys,” Westmann explains.

Access can be granted temporarily, removed again when the work is finished, and managed without showing up in person.

From test to standard solution

Bjerke Eiendom started with one installation to test the solution. The conclusion came quickly.

We started with one to test it out and quickly concluded that this was a no-brainer — we want Parqio everywhere.

Today the solution is used on all the garages where possible, and the time spent is sharply reduced. Where they previously mailed out gate remotes, left out keys for tradespeople and turned up for deliveries, everything is now managed digitally. “The staff like it very much and find it easy to deal with,” says Westmann.

The new standard for property management

For property companies it’s first and foremost about efficient operations and security at the facilities. With digital access you always know who has access to the garage, without worrying about stray keys or remotes.

When keys, gate remotes and physical handovers disappear, it becomes easier to handle tenants, deliveries and tradespeople alike. At the same time, users get a simpler and more flexible solution. That’s why more and more property companies are choosing to do the same — to throw away the key.
